Protest and Riot Seminar
Description: This seminar is designed for the participant to better understand the nature of riots and protests from an academic, theoretical perspective. Understanding the nature of dissent in a democratic setting is fundamental to understanding democratic theory and practice.

To qualify for a Certificate of Completion, the participant must view and engage each of the three lectures. After reviewing the lectures, the participant must then write and upload a 1,000 word “Seminar Review Paper” that identifies important aspects of the lecture they found especially helpful or illuminating. They may also raise questions about how these seminars may need to addresses issues that were not mentioned. In the writing of the Seminar Review Paper the participant should address the question: “Are riots and protests healthy for a democracy? The participant may choose to publish their Seminar Review Paper in the GCAS Review making it available to the public as a way to contribute to and deepen the general public discussion on this important topic.
Formatting: The Seminar Review Paper should be formatted in 12 inch (Times new Roman or similar font), double-spaced with approximately 1 inch margins. When quoting a source proper citation standards should be used.
Evaluation: To ensure quality, each paper that is submitted will be read and evaluated. Papers that demonstrate quality and critical engagement will receive a passing grade. Participants whose papers that do not pass the evaluation will not receive a Certificate of Completion.
Certificates of completion will be posted to the participant who passes this seminar via email in PDF format.
