For decades the university —and different spaces of knowledge and creation— has been systematically undermined by a corporate and big business outlook. Universities —except in rare cases— are no longer places where research, new paradigms of thinking, critique, and creation take place.  These practices do not measure on neoliberalism’s scales and thus are discarded as worthless. This context where thinking, research and intellectual freedom goes to die was constructed through the tactic of inflating student tuition which has increased in public universities by 2,580% and 2,107% in private colleges and universities since 1970. The University has thus become the Trojan Horse in which toxic debt was unleashed on students.  The strategy of “Making the [education] economy scream” by defunding education through forcing student debt beyond 1.7 trillion dollars has severely compromised the production of new knowledge. This has broken down one of the essential glues of society and created a void that has recently been filled by dictators, authoritarianism, and emerging fascistic regimes of power that back elites and creates new forms of enslavement.
